I’ve been reading a lot this week about the emergence of a new 'wisdom economy' now that AI is replacing the 'knowledge economy'.
In short, the 'knowledge economy' is the one our society and education system is set up for that seeks to ensure the people who can prove using measurable criteria that they are the smartest (exams, prestigious University etc) are the ones who are ‘the best’ and could statistically demand the highest compensation. Now this assumes we lived and live in a meritocracy, which is demonstrably not the case due to privilege and opportunity etc but this was the theory.
Now AI is learning to perform a lot of these measurable tasks more efficiently than the 'smartest' people, a different skillset is becoming more valued and sought after that AI can't perform. Wisdom. Being human. Learning why you do the things you do and how to contribute meaningfully towards a goal and, increasingly, doing things for their own sake.
As a result we now face the small matter of creating new structures, systems and business models to support and enable this shift from knowledge to wisdom.
Exciting times.
This is something I want to contribute to and, as someone who works on their own and needs community to feel more alive, I am hereby floating the idea of people who want to share thoughts and ideas on this subject meeting up every month on zoom to chat and think together about how we can all contribute to this goal. If this is something you would be interested in being a part of, I have set up a Doodle to find a slot for the first meeting at the end of August / early September here. If you select all the dates / times you can make, I’ll then choose one based on the time that works for the most people.
Hope to see you there!
